Castro Government Fears Technology, Marco Rubio Says

Could increased Internet access result in a Cuban Spring?

Floridas Sen. Marco Rubio thinks so. And he thinks thats why its not going to come to the island as long as the Castro regime lasts.

The keynote speaker at a panel discussion Wednesday hosted by the Heritage Foundation and Googles think tank, Google Ideas, Rubio, the son of Cuban exiles, predicted that greater access to technology would lead to greater longing for freedom in the countrys population -- a possibility the dictatorship fears.

Rail Group Unveils Miami-Orlando Passenger Train Service

Florida East Coast Industries says it is developing a privately owned and operated passenger rail line to connect South Florida and Orlando by 2014.

The All Aboard Florida project would use 200 miles of existing Florida East Coast Railway freight tracks between Miami and Cocoa, and build 40 miles of new track to complete the route to Orlando.

Eventually the system could be expanded with connections to Tampa and Jacksonville, the company said.

Miami-Cocoa-Orlando Passenger Rail Service Proposed

Florida East Coast Industries has announced a $1 billion project to create a Miami-to-Orlando passenger train service by 2014 called "All Aboard Florida."

The rail line would go from Miami to Cocoa along the FEC right-of-way that skirts the east coast of Florida and last supported passenger rail service in 1968, then travels west on new tracks to Orlando, a release from Florida East Coast Industries stated.

Connie Mack Slams Bill Nelson and Obama on Keystone XL

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, running in the Republican primary to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November, came out swinging on Thursday as he looked to make the Keystone XL Pipeline an issue. Mack, chairman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, took aim at Nelson and President Barack Obama on the issue.

Diaz de la Portilla Drops Plan to Redraw Seat Eyed by his Brother

Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, R-Miami, withdrew an amendment to the Senates redistricting effort that sought a fourth Hispanic seat in Southeast Florida -- a seat now held by Sen. Gwen Margolis, D-Miami, that de la Portilla's brother Alex has eyed for a return to the Legislature.

Miguel Diaz de la Portilla initially proposed the amendment during the Senate Reapportionment Committee meeting earlier in the week.

Newt Gingrich Runs Etch a Sketch Ad Against Mitt Romney

The gloves are coming off as Newt Gingrich is taking aim at Mitt Romney in a new ad.

Using a quote from Romney strategist Eric Fehrnstrom
, the Gingrich team looks to show Romney is quick to change his views. The ad shows clips of Romney making statements contradicting each other. The ad can be found here and Gingrich has run an entire website based on the attack.

Value of Miami Marlins Jumps 25 percent, Tampa Bay Rays Dips

With the team moving into a new $515 million ballpark this year, the value of the Miami Marlins has grown 25 percent in the past year, according to Forbes magazine.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays were one of two teams to decline in value.

In its latest Business of Baseball, the magazine reported that the average team value rose by 16 percent in the past year, with the average value standing at $605 million.

Both of Floridas clubs were below the average.

Slashing at Obamacare, House Votes to Scrap Medicare Advisory Board

For the 26th time, the U.S. House has voted to repeal all or part of Obamacare.

In another party-line vote today, Republicans voted to delete a central component of the law: the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a panel empowered to make changes to Medicare.

Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Bradenton, who sided with the majority in the 223-181 vote, said, No group of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats should be tasked with deciding what constitutes necessary care for our nations seniors.

Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnams first annual report on Floridas energy output and use points to three technologies under development that could radically change Floridas electric energy sector: battery storage, ocean energy, and advances in wind energy.

These technologies are being researched both throughout the United States and within Floridas university system, the report states.
