GOP Grades Well in 2012 Chamber Report Card

All but one of Floridas Republican senators got a passing grade, with two earning perfect scores -- Garrett Richter, R-Naples, and Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando -- and 13 others picking up A's for their votes in the regular session from the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber on Friday released its annual post-session report card on how legislators vote Chamber issues during the 60-day session, ranging from support of personal injury protection insurance reform and numeric nutrient criteria for state waters to opposition to the expansion of casinos.

Senate Races Take Shape as New Districts Head to Court

Hopefuls have already started to line up for the new Senate districts, eying vacant and redrawn seats that will force incumbents to learn new constituents in the upper chamber, though the boundaries have yet to be formally approved.

The possibility exists for only two contests among sitting Senate incumbents under the revamped map. Still, with term limits and some congressional aspirations, the Senate has 14 to 15 open seats and a number of current and former House members believe they are ready to move up.

Rick Scott Praises Legislative Passage of Economic Package

Gov. Rick Scott used his weekly radio address Friday to hail the Legislature's passage of his economic package as "a huge victory for all Floridians" that will increase employment in the Sunshine State.

Scott has made no secret of his emphasis on job creation in Florida, and continued to stress it Friday.

Geraldo Rivera Blames Hoodie for Trayvon Martin Shooting

On "Fox and Friends" Friday, television personality Gerald Riviera -- possibly better known by his stage name, Geraldo Rivera -- put part of the blame for Trayvon Martin's shooting death on Martin himself.

Or at least on what Martin was wearing -- a hoodie Rivera said was so associated with crime in the public mind that it stirs automatic suspicion. It's like traditional Muslim garb at an airport, Rivera said.

Joe Biden Slaps GOP at South Florida Retirement Community

Vice President Joe Biden, Barack Obama's envoy to the white working class, revved up a crowd of South Florida retirees Friday.

Speaking at the blue-collar retirement community of Wynmoor Village in Coconut Creek, Biden hammered at the theme of "economic security for America's seniors" and ripped into Republicans.

"Theres no question that the aging of the baby boomers puts new pressures on Medicare and Social Security," the Delaware Democrat told an overflow crowd of 600 residents aged 55-plus.

GOP Presidential Race Moves to Wisconsin, Maryland, D.C.

After the Louisiana primary on Saturday, the procession of states that are determining which Republican will challenge President Barack Obama in November slows down with the next round coming up on April 3 when the District of Columbia, Maryland and Wisconsin have their say.

Wisconsin is the largest prize of the three with 42 delegates to the Republican convention in Tampa -- and a poll released at the end of last week shows Mitt Romney in solid shape to win the state.

Two polls unveiled on Friday show Rick Santorum has a commanding lead over Mitt Romney in the Louisiana Republican presidential primary, which will be held on Saturday. When Republicans meet at their national convention in Tampa come August, Louisiana will have 46 delegates.
