Florida Baptist Lobbyist Calls Regular Session 'Mixed Success'

The lobbyist for the Florida Baptist Convention viewed the state Legislatures recently completed regular session as offering "mixed success."

Florida Baptist Convention lobbyist Bill Bunkley, president of the Florida Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, listed stopping casinos and passing religious liberty legislation as highlights, while being disappointed in legislation failing to ban Internet gambling cafes and to pass pro-life legislation, according to the Florida Baptist Witness.

Elena Kagan 'Cloud' Hangs Over Supreme Court as Obamacare Hearings Begin

As the U.S. Supreme Court begins three days of hearings on the constitutionality of Obamacare Monday morning, Justice Elena Kagan is in the spotlight.

President Barack Obama's former solicitor general, whom he elevated to the high court, is expected to participate in the oral arguments -- despite repeated calls for Kagan to recuse herself, or to at least better explain her reasons for staying on the case.

In a letter to Kagan on March 22, Judicial Watch stated:

Gas within 10 cents of the $4 a gallon mark in Florida

An average gallon of gas in Florida was 10 cents below the $4 mark, and could top that amount in a couple of weeks, according to AAA.

Floridas $3.90 a gallon average -- up 8 cents from a week earlier -- topped the national mark by 1 cent.

AAA pointed to the impact on retailers:

As gas prices climb, many retailers across the U.S. are seeing their profit margins tumble, Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, stated in a release.

Obamacare Goes to Court; GOP Says Voters Have Ruled it Guilty

The U.S. Supreme Court takes up the long-anticipated Obamacare case today, and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said the scheme has already been ruled guilty by the court of public opinion.

"Two-thirds of Americans, according to recent polling, want the court to end all or part of Obamacare," Priebus said. "Regardless of the court's decision, voters have already declared Obamacare guilty -- guilty of increasing health-care costs, growing government, cutting Medicare and undermining the Constitution."
