LeMieux Praises Pope for 'Speaking Out Against' Castro Regime

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now running for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, weighed in on Monday on Pope Benedict XVI visiting communist Cuba.
I applaud Pope Benedict for speaking out against the communist regime in Cuba, LeMieux said. Since 1959, the people of Cuba have been denied fundamental freedoms, including the right to free speech, the ability to worship freely, and the right to choose their leaders. Like all of Gods children, the people of Cuba deserve to live in freedom. During my time in the Senate, I was an outspoken critic of the Castro regime and if I return, I will continue fighting for the freedom of the Cuban people.
