Florida East Coast Industries says it is developing a privately owned and operated passenger rail line to connect South Florida and Orlando by 2014.
The All Aboard Florida project would use 200 miles of existing Florida East Coast Railway freight tracks between Miami and Cocoa, and build 40 miles of new track to complete the route to Orlando.
Eventually the system could be expanded with connections to Tampa and Jacksonville, the company said.
Currently, coastal communities north of West Palm Beach have no passenger service, as Amtrak trains swing inland to Orlando and reconnect with the coast near Jacksonville.
