Value of Miami Marlins Jumps 25 percent, Tampa Bay Rays Dips

With the team moving into a new $515 million ballpark this year, the value of the Miami Marlins has grown 25 percent in the past year, according to Forbes magazine.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays were one of two teams to decline in value.

In its latest Business of Baseball, the magazine reported that the average team value rose by 16 percent in the past year, with the average value standing at $605 million.

Both of Floridas clubs were below the average.

The Marlins, at $450 million, stood in 21st place. The Rays, at $323 million, down 2 percent in the past year, were 29th, ahead of only the Oakland As.

As expected, the New York Yankees topped the list, at a value of $1.85 billion.
