Haridopolos Expects Casino Bill to Reach Senate Floor

Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, expects the highly controversial destination gaming bill to reach the Senate floor for a full up or down vote.

Some of my friends within the'leadership team' are for it, some are against it, Ive kind of let it be, Haridopolos told reporters Tuesday afternoon. What Im not going to allow happen is to simply not have a vote take place. People should, if they believe in their idea. Lets put it up for a vote.

Newt Gingrich's Team Opens Fire on Mitt Romney

The camp behind former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich served notice that they intend to attack former Gov. Mitt Romney in South Carolina, releasing ads inthe Palmetto State critical of the former Massachusetts governor. Romney won the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday while Gingrich is battling former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania for fourth.

Michael Krull, Gingrichs campaign manager, sent out a message to supporters on Tuesday night as the results came in.

Perry Shrugs Off New Hampshire, Ready for South Carolina

With 1 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, who is a distant sixth-place finisher in the Granite State, shrugged off the results on Tuesday night.

Major University Reform May Take Several Sessions

Dont expect any controversial overhaul of Floridas university system in the recently started legislative session, even after the House speaker on Tuesday morning evoked Gov. Rick Scott in calling for the system to be given a serious review.

House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, and Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, both would later in the day say the process may take several sessions to complete.

Mitt Romney Takes Aim at Obama After New Hampshire Win

Having won the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday night, Republican presidential hopeful former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts called out President Barack Obama.

Romney took to the stage in Manchester to address supporters right after the networks declared him the winner.

Tonight, we made history, Romney, who finished second in the Granite State in 2008 behind John McCain, told a cheering crowd.

Romney took aim at Obama, hammering the Democratic incumbents record on the economy and attacking his failed leadership.

Ron Paul Beats Jon Huntsman for Second in New Hampshire

Having placed third in Iowa, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the silver in New Hampshire. With 18 percent of the votes counted, Paul took 25 percent of the vote -- placing him well behind former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts but ahead of the other candidates. With 17 percent, former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah took third. Huntsman focused on New Hampshire, ignoring Iowa.

Mitt Romney Projected to Win New Hampshire Primary

Republican presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night, when TV networks and news agencies called it just after 8 p.m. EST. Polls had just closed in the Granite State. Romney became the first nonincumbent Republican presidential candidate to win both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire presidential primary. Romney, who placed second behind John McCain in the 2008 presidential primary, dominated polls in the Granite State during the campaign cycle.

Occupy Group Barred from State Senate Gallery

Citing noise and chanting earlier in the day, the Senate Sergeant at Arms on Tuesday denied Senate viewing gallery access to a group loosely defined as Occupy Tallahassee.

The decision by Sergeant at Arms Don Severance caused a flurry of activity in the afternoon as a group occupied a space just outside the Senate press gallery for a few hours after the session adjourned for the day.
