Book Plans Hike Across Florida in Honor of Penn State Victims

Scott, Putnam Set to Speak at Chamber's Capitol Days

Gov. Rick Scott and Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam are among the list of scheduled speakers for the Florida Chamber of Commerces annual Capitol Days this week.

The chamber event takes place Jan. 11-13 at the Hotel Duval in Tallahassee.

Scott is expected to host a reception for those attending the Capitol Days at the governor's mansion on Thursday night.

Deadline Approaches on Donating to Legislator's Re-election Efforts

State legislators have a number of fundraisers on tap today in Tallahassee, as starting Tuesday those seeking re-election or running for other offices will not be able to collect campaign contributions.

House rules prohibit campaign contributions during the 60-day regular session that this year -- because of the once-a-decade redistricting -- begins earlier than normal.

Saunders to Give Dems Response to Scott's State of the State

House Minority Leader Ron Saunders, D-Key West, will provide the Democrats' response to Gov. Rick Scotts State of the State on Tuesday.

Scott is scheduled to give his second State of the State address at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the House chambers at the Capitol.

Saunders will give a televised response from inside the Florida Channel studio in the Capitol immediately following Scotts address.

Conservative Group Posts State and Local Government Spending Watchdog Website

A Naples-based group claims it has created the largest online effort to expose excessive government spending in the state.

The Foundation for Government Accountability, based in Naples, rolled out an interactive website on the eve of the 2012 Florida legislative session that allows users to compare 15 years of state and local government employee salaries, 18 years of state and local budgets and government contracts -- or about $1.4 trillion in public spending.

With the New Hampshire primary looming on Tuesday, the candidates running for the Republican presidential nomination sprinted across the Granite State as they campaigned for last-minute votes.

Mitt Romney's Lead Over Ron Paul in N.H. Dwindles but is Still Solid

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has been leading the daily tracking poll from Suffolk University/7News of likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters -- but that lead is shrinking. In the latest one, released on Monday morning, Romney still leads with 33 percent while U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas takes second with 20 percent. Romney had been pulling as high as 43 percent last week.

Mitt Romney's Odds to Win New Hampshire Increase

Paddy Power, the largest bookmaker in Ireland, released their final odds on the New Hampshire Republican primary and have made former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts the overwhelming favorite to win on Tuesday. Romney has 1-33 odds while the rest of the field is far behind. Last week Romney was a 1-25 favorite.

Jon Huntsman Slams Mitt Romney in New Hampshire Ad

Former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah unveiled a commercial on Monday that will be running in New Hampshire on both Monday and Tuesday in which he takes aim at the leading candidate in the GOP presidential race -- former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. New Hampshire holds its primary on Tuesday and Romney leads in the polls up in the Granite State. The ad features comments Huntsman made in a debate on Sunday morning.
