George LeMieux Jabs GOP Rival Connie Mack

With a poll from Quinnipiac University released on Wednesday finding him trailing U.S. Rep. Connie Mack in the race for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux came out swinging at his primary rival. Weighing in on the national debt, LeMieux took a shot at Mack on Wednesday.

Rules Subcommittee Backs 46 Executive Appointments

The Senate Rules Subcommittee on Ethics and Elections supported the following 46 executive appointments on Wednesday:

Board of Accountancy: Vogel, Harold S. (Key Biscayne).

Board of Acupuncture: Teisinger, Mary Katherine (Lake Alfred).

Board of Architecture and Interior Design: Fishburne, Kenan Ann (Quincy).

Board of Chiropractic Medicine: Fogarty, Kevin G., D.C. (Merritt Island); Jones, Roderick C., D.C. (Redington Shores).

Rick Perry Hits the Airwaves in South Carolina

Trying to get back in the race after ignoring the New Hampshire primary, Texas Gov. Rick Perry unveiled a new ad on Wednesday hitting the airwaves in South Carolina which holds it primary on Jan. 21. Perry plays up his service in the U.S. Air Force in the ad which features veterans praising the Lone Star State governor.

Bill Nelson Vulnerable, According to New Q-Poll

Despite his four decades on the Florida political stage, Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson is in for a tough fight as he seeks a third term in 2012, according to a poll released on Wednesday from Quinnipiac University.

When matched up against Republican hopeful U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, whose father held the Senate seat for two terms, Nelson takes 41 percent while the GOP congressman has 40 percent.

Obama Struggles in Florida

President Barack Obama is upside down in Florida, a state he carried in 2008 and is targeting in 2012 as he runs for a second term, according to a poll from Quinnipiac University released on Wednesday morning.

A majority of Floridians -- 54 percent -- disapprove of Obamas performance in the White House. Forty-two percent of those surveyed approve of Obama.

The poll also found that a majority of Floridians -- 52 percent -- do not think that Obama deserves a second term in the White House. Forty-four percent of those surveyed think that Obama deserves four more years.

A group of Occupiers wasn't allowed to enter the Senate gallery for the afternoon session as the 2012 legislative session got under way Tuesday.

Members of Occupy Tallahassee and the Awake the State effort said they were told they were considered disruptive in trying to get into the House gallery for Gov. Rick Scotts State of the State address, which was limited to invitation-only seating.

Bob Graham Shuts the Door on Rumored 2014 Run for Governor

Despite increasing speculation that Bob Graham is mapping out a run against Rick Scott in 2014, the former U.S. senator and two-term governor emphatically denied he has any further personal interest in the governor's office.

"No way," Graham told Sunshine State News on Tuesday. "I have no intention of running for office again. I've had my last campaign."

Mitt Romney Wins New Hampshire, Paul Beats Huntsman for Second

Republican presidential hopeful former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts won the New Hampshire primary Tuesday, becoming the first non-incumbent Republican presidential candidate to win both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire presidential primary.

With 92 percent of all votes counted, Romney led with 39.3 percent, followed by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas with 22.9 percent. Former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah stood in third with 16.9 percent.

Rick Santorum is on to South Carolina After New Hampshire

While he is battling Newt Gingrich for fourth place in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday night, Rick Santorum told his supporters that he will stay in the race and is off to South Carolina.

Following his strong showing in Iowa, where he lost to Mitt Romney by eight votes, Santorum insisted that he was satisfied with his performance though he knew New Hampshire would be a little tougher. Santorum stands with 10 percent with 65 percent of the votes counted.

Jon Huntsman Tries to Spin Third Place in New Hampshire

Despite finishing behind Mitt Romney and Ron Paul in the New Hampshire primary with 17 percent of the vote, Jon Huntsman attempted to claim a victory on Tuesday night.

Having focused heavily on New Hampshire, even noting that nobody else even came close" to the 170 events he held in the Granite State, Huntsman attempted to claim momentum.

I think were in the hunt, Huntsman maintained. I say third place is a ticket to ride.
