Mitt Romney Projected to Win New Hampshire Primary

Republican presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night, when TV networks and news agencies called it just after 8 p.m. EST. Polls had just closed in the Granite State. Romney became the first nonincumbent Republican presidential candidate to win both the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire presidential primary. Romney, who placed second behind John McCain in the 2008 presidential primary, dominated polls in the Granite State during the campaign cycle.

With 11 percent of all votes counted, Romney leads with 36 percent, followed by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas with 25 percent. Former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah stands in third with 17 percent. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich stands in fourth with 11 percent, followed by former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania with 10 percent.
