Florida Scanning Driver's License Lists for Possible Ineligible Voters

More than one of every 100 registered voters in Florida, many in predominately Democratic Miami-Dade County, are being scrutinized for their citizenship and eligibility to cast a ballot.

The review is part of an ongoing operation the Division of Elections has undertaken with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles that is checking the citizenship of 180,000 registered voters.

Buddy Roemer Insists 'I Run to Win' as He Seeks Americans Elect Nomination

Former Gov. Buddy Roemer of Louisiana is in an odd spot. He plans to continue his bid for the White House as a minor party candidate -- but he refuses to be called a spoiler.

Roemer has pulled in more supporters than any other declared candidate for the Americans Elect nomination in that organizations online primary and he is also a favorite for the Reform Party nomination. Yet, he will not classify himself as a spoiler to either Barack Obamas chances for a second term or Mitt Romneys opportunity to become president.

Marco Rubio Might Be Dreaming of Iowa but He Faces Major Competition

U.S. Sen Marco Rubio, R-Fla., spoke to business leaders in Iowa Thursday, setting off speculation that he could be angling for a future presidential bid.

But a poll released this week shows that the junior senator from Florida has some major competition in the Hawkeye State. Rubio next week is headed to South Carolina, another early state in the presidential nomination process.

Adam Putnam Announces 2012 Florida Energy Summit

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam announced plans today for the 2012 Florida Energy Summit, which will be held Aug.15-17 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort in Orlando.

The 2012 Florida Energy Summit will build upon the discussions from last years summit and provide thoughtful direction about Floridas energy potential, Putnam stated in a release.

Rasmussen: Mitt Romney Ahead of President Obama by 7 Points

The daily Presidential Tracking Poll from Rasmussen Reports puts anticipated GOP challenger Mitt Romney ahead of President Barack Obama by 7 percentage points.

The former Massachusetts governor stands at 50 percent to 43 percent for Obama, with 4 percent looking at a third party candidate and another 3 percent still undecided for the November contest.

The numbers come amid declining economic numbers, with those who believe their personal finances are getting better down 2 percentage points in the past week.

Like It or Not, Bill Nelson Looks Solid for Third Term

Republicans hold the high ground in Floridas political battles.

They control the governorship and all the state Cabinet offices. Most of the Florida congressional delegation is Republican and they have veto-proof majorities in both chambers of the state Legislature.

But they cant quite get their act together in taking on Democrat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, who is seeking a third term in November.
