Flags to be at Half-Staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day

Flags will be at half-staff at government facilities in Florida on Tuesday for all federal, state and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.

Gov. Rick Scott and President Barack Obama both released proclamations calling for all governments to lower flags to half-staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day.

GOP Senate Hopefuls Continue to Clash as Primary Enters Last Three Months

The two leading Republican candidates looking to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson traded shots on Monday as they enter the final three months of the primary.

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux has done well In terms of gathering the support of Republican members of the Florida Legislature -- more than 30 so far have endorsed him -- former U.S. Sen. Geroge LeMieux has done well. In fact, some of those legislators went to bat for him Monday in his primary fight against U.S. Rep. Connie Mack.

Connie Mack Slams George LeMieux in New Ad

The team behind Republican U.S. Senate hopeful U.S. Rep. Connie Mack took aim at GOP primary rival former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux on Monday in a new Web ad. The ad attacks LeMieux, who served 16 months in the Senate, for joining then-U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, to jump over and vote with the Democrats to break a Republican filibuster on President Barack Obamas jobs bill back in 2010.

Florida's First Lady to Open New Journal for Parents of Newborns

First lady Ann Scott will unveil a new Love.Read.Learn! baby journal for parents of newborns on Tuesday at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, the governors office announced.

The journal, created in partnership with the nonprofit Volunteer USA Foundation, offers learning tips and child wellness information, according to the release.

Backed by sponsorships from Scholastic FACE, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Tobacco Free Florida and Carnival, the journal will be distributed at no cost to new parents at hospitals throughout Florida.

Rick Scott Takes Business Development Road Show to Spain this Weekend

Gov. Rick Scott is off to Spain this weekend, leading a four-day business development mission that will also include a meeting with King Juan Carlos and a whiff ofFlorida's upcoming quincentennialcelebrations.

Scott will be joined on the trip by first lady Ann Scott, three staffers from their offices, along with more than 60 officials from various government offices and private businesses on the excursion, focused on increasing opportunities for companies from Spain -- Floridas 34th largest trading partner -- to invest, grow and create jobs in Florida.

George LeMieux, Thanked by Obama, Defends 'Small-Business Jobs' Vote

It wasn't exactly a Charlie Crist hug, but President Obama's effusive thanks to George LeMieux isn't going to help the former senator regain his seat.

Gloves Come Off as Obama Rips Into Romney's Record in Private Sector

On Monday, the teams behind President Barack Obama and presumptive Republican nominee former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts fired away at each other over economics as the campaigns continue to move into general election mode.

The Obama camp launched a new website and television ad being aired in battleground states -- including Colorado, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia -- that the Democrats want to keep in their column in November. Both the website and the ad slam Romneys record in the private sector.

FAMU President Ammons: Suspend Marching 100 for 2012-2013

James Ammons, Florida A&M University president, has recommended the famed Marching 100 band will remain suspended through the 2012-2013 school year, pending a massive restructuring of the band.

The band was suspended following the hazing death of Robert Champion in November.

Eleven FAMU band members face felony charges in Champions death.
