Supreme Court Backs Broward's Voter-Approved Term Limits

Broward Countys term limits dont violate the state Constitution, the Florida Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

Along with the ruling, the court reversed a 2005 injunction that has blocked term limits from being imposed for county commissioners in Sarasota County.

Jeff Atwater: Miami Boat Captain Charged for Sinking Yacht

A Miami boat captain was charged with first-degree grand theft for allegedly sinking a $1.86 million yacht off the Bahamas, the office of Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced Thursday.

Robert Figueredo, 49, was arrested by detectives from the Florida Department of Financial Services Division of Insurance Fraud following an investigation into the sinking of the 80-foot yacht Star One.

Realtors Suggest Housing Trusts for Mortgage Settlement Money

The Florida Realtors are the latest to chime in on how Attorney General Pam Bondi should spent $300 million, the states share of a national mortgage servicing settlement.

More than 1,000 submissions have already been received since Bondi set up a webpage earlier this month seeking input into how the money should be used.

Adam Putnam to Announce Plans for Florida Energy Summit

Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam will announcedetails of the 2012 Florida Energy Summit on Friday during the Orlando Utilities Commission meeting.

The summit, a three-day conference hosted by Putnams Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, will bring together energy leaders from across the state and around the nation to share ideas on diversifying the states energy sources, spurring economic growth and promoting energy conservation, according to a release from Putnams office.

Jeb or Rubio as VP Would Help Romney Against Obama in Florida

A poll released by Suffolk University/7News (WSVN in Miami) on Wednesday finds that President Barack Obama and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, the overwhelming favorite for the Republican nomination, are in a close fight to win Florida in November, but the Republicans can increase their odds of carrying the Sunshine State if a favorite son -- namely former Gov. Jeb Bush or freshman U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. -- is added to the ticket.

Rand Paul Backs Connie Mack to Challenge Bill Nelson

On Wednesday, the scion of one political dynasty announced that he was backing the heir to another, as U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., endorsed Connie Macks bid to challenge incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

Macks father -- former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack -- held the seat for two terms before retiring in 2000. Paul, a rising star in the Republican Party and a favorite of the tea party movement, is the son of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who is currently making his second bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
