Dean Cannon, Chris Dorworth Top Florida Chamber's Advocates Awards

The Florida Chamber of Commerce honored 41 Republican lawmakers and three Democrats from among the states 160 legislators for support of the business advocacy groups agenda in the 2012 regular session.

Top honors went to House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, named the 2012 Most Valuable Legislator and Rep. Chris Dorworth, R-Lake Mary, given the Chairmans Award, in an announcement released by the chamber on Tuesday.

The MLV is the chambers premier award, honoring a single lawmaker for leadership on free enterprise issues.

Ron Paul Would Be Major Factor if He Went Third Party

A national poll of likely voters released by Rasmussen Reports Tuesday shows that Ron Paul, who is the only major opponent that Mitt Romney faces for the Republican presidential nomination, would be a major factor if he made a third-party presidential bid in 2012.

Dean Cannon Named Florida Chamber's 2012 MVL

House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, can add an MVL (Most Valuable Legislator) to his mantle as he exits the Legislature.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce gave Cannon the 2012 MVL honor on Tuesday, noting that he helped establish predictability and stability with Floridas business climate and supported private-sector job creation.

GOP Senate Candidates Battle for Position

As he continues his bid for the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson, U.S. Rep. Connie Mack is turning to prominent supporters to introduce him to Florida voters -- while his chief GOP primary rival, former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, attempts to characterize him in a new attack ad.

Mack turned to former presidential candidate U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., on Tuesday to reach out to conservatives in the Sunshine State. Bachmann announced last week that she was backing Mack in the Senate race.

Family-Friendly Orlando Tops Nation in Adult Indulgences

Orlando may be a family-friendly city known for the Magic Kingdom, but according to Men's Health Magazine it's also ground zero for purchasing, renting and streaming porn.

The city took the top spot in the magazine's list of porn. Don't expect this to be highlighted by business and travel leaders.

In addition to buying and renting porn, the magazine also judged cities based on the number of adult entertainment stores, Google searches for porn sites, and Cinemax-subscribing households.

Apply Now to be Trustee on Florida Polytechnic University Board

Gov. Rick Scott has issued a call for applicants to be charter members of the board of trustees for Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland.

AECOM VP Chris Corr Named by Rick Scott to UF Board of Trustees

Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Chris Corr, a veteran real estate development executive, to the University of Florida board of trustees.

According to a release from the governors office, Corr, 48, of Lake Lure, N.C., has been the executive vice president of AECOM, overseeing planning, design and development, since 2008.

Veterans Group, State at Odds About Internet Cafe Records

A group of major players in the Internet cafe industry is challenging an attempt by the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to require the businesses to open up financial records.

Affiliates of the nonprofit Allied Veterans of the World contend in a lawsuit they are not covered by state charity laws that would require them to register with the department and provide financial information.
