Dem-Leaning PPP Shows Obama Ahead in Florida

A new poll of registered voters from Public Policy Polling (PPP), a firm with connections to prominent Democrats, shows that Barack Obama holds a small lead over Mitt Romney in Florida.

The poll of voters in the Sunshine State shows Obama taking 50 percent while Romney follows with 46 percent -- just short of the polls margin of error of +/- 3.9 percent. A PPP poll of Florida taken back in April had Obama taking 50 percent and Romney garnering 45 percent.

Retirees, Super-PACs Boost Romney Over Obama in Florida

Raising more Florida money than President Obama and Newt Gingrich combined, Mitt Romney appears to hold a financial advantage heading into the fall election.

The former Republican governor from Massachusetts drummed up $7,829,150 compared with Obama's $5,867,102. Add Gingrich's $1,44,912, and Romney is still the cash king.

The figures, based on Federal Election Commission data available through May 21, show Romney's fundraising machine rolling over Obama in Republican strongholds from Jacksonville to Naples.

New Florida Poly Board of Trustees Attracts 53 for Five Spots

The Florida Board of Governors will slim the list of 53 applicants to be members of the charter board of trustees at the new Florida Polytechnic University to five in two weeks.

Bill Clinton Fires Back at Allen West for Saying 80 Dems in Congress are Communists

Former President Bill Clinton is taking aim at U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., for comments he made that there were at least 80 Democratic members of Congress who are communists.

In a speech on Monday night, Clinton bashed the GOP leadership in Congress and on the campaign trail for not slapping West on the wrists for his comment.

New Ad in Florida Slams Obama on National Debt

President Barack Obama is drawing fire from Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS), an organization with ties to many prominent Republicans including Karl Rove. Crossroads GPS is running a new ad slamming Obama on the national debt in a $5.5 million ad campaign being launched in key battleground states, including Florida, on Tuesday. Crossroads GPS is spending $1.7 million to run the ad in the Sunshine State over the next two weeks.
