Backfired! Gov. Scott Walker Wins Recall Election Handily

In the end, Tuesday's Scott Walker recall election wasn't even close. The gritty Republican governor of Wisconsin pulled in 54 percent of the vote to Democrat Tom Barrett's 45 percent.

The result, closely watched by the White House, devastated Democrats and labor unions. Out-of-state conservative and liberal groups alike had poured money into the race, and several big-name politicians -- including Bill Clinton -- stumped in Wisconsin.

The one heavy hitter conspicuously absent was Barack Obama.

Will Weatherford: Who Had a Rougher Night, Wisconsin Dems or Miami Heat?

House Speaker-designate Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, had cutting words on Twitter Wednesday for both those who tried unsuccessfully to remove Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on Tuesday and the performance of the Miami Heat, falling in game 5 of the Eastern Conference playoffs on Tuesday night.

Not sure who to feel more sorry for today, Wisconsin Democrats or the @MiamiHEAT for choking again last night.. Weatherford tweeted.

RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry Applauds Voter Registration Cleanup Effort

Florida Republican Party Chairman Lenny Curry thanked "citizen activists" who have embarked on an effort to ensure that the state's voter rolls are free of noncitizens.

"While the Obama administration and liberal special interests don't seem to care about the integrity of Florida's voting system, thankfully there are citizen activists throughout our state who do, and we thank them for their support," Curry said in a statement Tuesday.

Florida’s GOP Senate Field to be in Place Wednesday

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux has announced he will file qualifying paperwork Wednesday morning to round out the announced GOP field intent on taking on long-serving U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, retired Army officer Mike McCalister of Plant City and former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon of Melbourne all submitted their paperwork on Monday.

Nelson also qualified on Monday.

Assisted Living Facilities Rulemaking Under Way; Industry, Advocates at Odds

After a newspaper report last year revealed 70 deaths from abuse and neglect at Florida's assisted living facilities since 2002, efforts to reform the system have so far come to naught but on Tuesday another got under way.

The Miami Herald series "Neglected to Death" generated a work group appointed by Gov. Rick Scott, a grand jury probe and several reform bills that died in the last legislative session. Those bills that adopted the work group's recommendations for oversight of the facilities passed the Senate but didn't get a hearing in the House of Representatives.

Could Supreme Court Justices be Deposed in Retention Case?

A gadfly ex-attorney predicted Tuesday that a state investigation could spell "big trouble" for three state Supreme Court justices.

Gov. Rick Scott on Monday forwarded state Rep. Scott Plakon's call for an investigation to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Plakon's request was triggered when Justices Barbara Pariente, Fred Lewis and Peggy Quince received staff help in submitting paperwork to state election officials.
