Rick Scott: 'We Just Want Fair Elections'

June 3, 2012 - 6:00pm

Gov. Rick Scott defended the states efforts to remove noncitizens from the list of Floridas registered voters with a deadlined response looming for the U.S. Department of Justice on Monday.

There is no perfect time to do any of these things, we just want fair elections, Scott said following a business round table in the rural Panhandle community of Quincy.

This is not a partisan issue; Republicans want fair elections, Democrats, independents, we all do.

A Republican challenger to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said she was "shocked, but not surprised" by the Fort Lauderdale Democrat's verbal slap at former Gov. Jeb Bush this week.

Gineen Bresso said, "I am shocked, yet not that surprised, that on the same day that the Labor Department reported that unemployment in the U.S. rose to 8.2 percent, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz would launch a hollow attack on former Governor Jeb Bush for his successful initiative in recruiting Scripps Research Institute to Florida."

Counties, AHCA Hash Out Medicaid Billings

June 2, 2012 - 6:00pm

With hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, local officials from across Florida sought changes Friday as the state moves forward with new plans for collecting Medicaid payments from counties.

The issue has become highly controversial, after lawmakers in March required that the Agency for Health Care Administration recoup disputed Medicaid charges to the counties going back more than a decade. As of this week, 53 counties had joined a pending lawsuit that challenges the constitutionality of the Legislature's move.

June 3, 2012 - 6:00pm

With its policy count near 1.5 million and growing, officials of the state-backed property insurer went to Tampa Friday to get ideas on how to reduce its exposure and send customers back to the private market.

They found out from industry representatives that the goal is laudable, but also a tall order.

It's a Democrat-Thin War in Wisconsin

If the Badger State goes red, the Dems are dead.

That's the chantable little slogan you'll hear around Washington about how both sides are looking at the recall election of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, his lieutenant governor and four Republican state senators.

Trouble is, Dems on the national level aren't pouring enough money into the race between Walker and Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. And they've slipped as many as 7 points behind Walker in the polls.
