Ignored by Obama DHS: Florida's Request for Citizenship Database to Review Voting Lists

Florida continues to push for the Obama administration to release citizenship information, as elections supervisors from two Democratic-leaning counties have decided not to check for suspected noncitizens on the roll of voters.

Secretary of State Ken Detzner wrote again to the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday in an attempt to obtain what would be more updated citizenship information than the state currently has. Detzner is trying to remove noncitizens from the list of registered voters.

Even as Planned Parenthood unleashes a $1.4 million advertising campaign against Mitt Romney in Florida and a handful of other states, the nation's leading abortion provider is losing business.

From 2008 to 2011, the number of abortions dropped 19 percent in Florida, and that downward trend continues this year.

State legislators take some of the credit for the decrease, citing tougher regulations on abortion clinics.

Invoking the work of President George H.W. Bushs 1991 Gulf War alliance, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Miami, called on the United States to create a coalition of the willing to tackle Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Foundation for Florida's Future Honors 17 Lawmakers for Education Reform

The Foundation for Floridas Future handed top grades to 17 state legislators for "going above and beyond" in education reform.

Making the Foundations 2012 bipartisan Honor Roll are 10 state senators and seven state representatives.

In the Senate: JD Alexander, Lizbeth Benacquisto, Anitere Flores, Don Gaetz, Andy Gardiner, Bill Montford, Jeremy Ring, David Simmons, Gary Siplin and John Thrasher.

In the House, Michael Bileca, Jeff Brandes, Marti Coley, Richard Corcoran, Erik Fresen, Patrick Julien and Kelli Stargel.

Wilton Simpson in Strong Shape in State Senate Race

With a week to go until candidate filing closes, Dade City businessman Wilton Simpson appears to be in solid shape as he runs for a seat in the Florida Senate.

The Florida Bar: Four Attorneys Disbarred, Seven Suspended

The Florida Supreme Court has disciplined 13 attorneys, with four disbarred and seven suspended, the Florida Bar announced on Thursday.

Some attorneys received more than one discipline.

One attorney's license was placed on probation, two received public reprimands and one was ordered to pay restitution.

Aaron Bean Garners More Support in First Coast Senate Race

SpaceX Completes First Private Mission to Space Station

The private company, SpaceX, successfully landed its Dragon space capsule in the Pacific Ocean after a nine-day mission to the International Space Station.

Doing work formally done by NASA and the space shuttle, the capsule berthed with the ISS, delivering cargo and supplies to astronauts conducting experiments in orbit.

Last Tuesday, SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon Capsule on a maiden voyage to the ISS. Upon reaching the space station, a robotic arm docked the Dragon capsule so supplies to the station could be unloaded.

DEP: Permit Brouhaha Not Why Wetlands Expert is on Paid Leave

A Florida Department of Environmental Protection wetlands expert wasnt suspended for refusing to issue a wetlands credit permit as a newspaper contends, the state agency announced Thursday.

In fact, the DEP states, the permit application has yet to be completed.

However, the reason wetlands expert Connie Bersok has been put on paid leave, with an internal investigation under way, wasnt revealed.

It is not the departments policy to discuss employee personnel matters in the newspaper or with the general public, the two-page release from the DEP stated.
