Annette Taddeo Draws GOP Fire at National and State Levels

Republicans at the state and national level are bashing Democratic congressional candidate Annette Taddeo for holding a fundraising event this week with U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, D-N.M., the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Reports have emerged that Democrats helped run a straw candidate for Congress back in 2010 in this South Florida district and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) have called on Taddeo to distance herself from the DCCC for its role in the 2010 campaign. Taddeo is running for her party's nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla.

Ander Crenshaw's GSP Bill on Travel Goods Passes House

June 12, 2015 - 9:00am

On Thursday, a Florida congressman scored a win for the American travel goods industry by opening new opportunities in Asia, namely in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand, and making some travel goods duty-free.

When the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program -- which provides commercial opportunities to developing countries -- was launched in 1974, travel goods were exempted. Earlier this year, U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla., introduced a bill to let companies petition the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to request items be added to the GSP program.

House Backs Off Bonding for Education, Environment

June 11, 2015 - 9:00pm

House leaders backed off a request for tens of millions of dollars in bonding for education and environmental projects Thursday, removing one of the stumbling blocks to a final deal on a state spending plan for the budget year that begins July 1.

But several obstacles --- including how to divvy up $1 billion in health-care funding --- remained as lawmakers race the clock to approve an agreement by June 30 and avoid a government shutdown. Legislators are trying to finish their work by the scheduled June 20 conclusion of a special legislative session.

Clinton Deploys 'They Hate You' Strategy

June 12, 2015 - 7:00am

Hillary Clinton had one of the worst campaign roll-outs in living memory. Her low-key (to the point of inaudibility) announcement video came in the midst of a months-long period of deeply damaging stories about her mania for secrecy (the private email server), which she indulged even at the expense of the law and national security, and her cavalier acceptance of favors in the form of donations to the Clinton Foundation.

June 11, 2015 - 5:00pm
I Beg to Differ

Can you spell h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e? Here's a closer  look at one: The Treasure Coast newspaper group that spent more than a year dogging lobbyist Ken Pruitt like a bloodhound at a crime scene for taking a sugar company's money ... well, how can I put this? ... climbed into bed with a sugar company.
