Gov. Rick Scott is bouncing back in his second term. That’s what a St. Leo University poll released Thursday shows. Scott is above water with 50 percent approving of him and 45 percent disapproving of him.

A new poll shows Florida voters are divided on Medicaid expansion. The Legislature was divided on the issue in recent weeks with the House opposing it and the Senate supporting it. The House effectively ensured Medicaid expansion would not be part of the state budget at the end of last week. 

Federal Judge Shoots Down Challenge to All Aboard Florida Bonds

All Aboard Florida (AAF) won big this week as U.S. District Court Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington, D.C., threw out a “temporary halt” to allegations brought by Martin and Indian River counties that would temporarily stop the Florida Development Finance Corp. (FDFC) from issuing private-activity bonds to AAF.

This decision ensures the high-speed passenger train will have the bonds to finance the $1.75 billion railroad from Miami to Orlando.

Curt Clawson Looks to Amend TPA to Crack Down on Currency Manipulation

From his seat on the U.S. House Rules Committee, U.S. Rep. Curt Clawson, R-Fla., led a coalition of liberals and conservatives to offer an amendment to the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) to cut down on currency manipulation. 

Clawson teamed up with U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., to introduce the amendment ensuring American trade negotiators' future trade deals crack down on currency manipulation with all countries following International Monetary Fund standards, and hoping other countries don’t use their exchange rates to subsidize exports. 

Florida Backs Normalizing Relations With Cuba, Poll Finds

A new poll shows Florida is behind lowering sanctions with Cuba. St. Leo University released a poll on Thursday showing a majority of Floridian s- -63 percent -- support easing restrictions on Cuba while 16 percent want the current sanctions to stay in place and 9 percent call for ending all trade with that communist nation. 

Curt Clawson: Funding Syrian Rebels Not Helping Fight Islamic State

On Wednesday night, U.S. Rep. Curt Clawson, R-Fla., took to the House floor, insisting sending taxpayer funds to arm Syrian rebels was not helping in the fight against Islamic State (IS) terrorism.

NRSC Calls on Patrick Murphy to Stand Against Harry Reid on Appropriations

The National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC) called on U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., to stand against U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid’s, D-Nev., plan to block the Senate appropriations process. CNN to Hold GOP Presidential Debate Five Days Before Florida Primary
