Golf Channel Workers Want Out Of Union

July 22, 2015 - 6:00pm

After two years of representation, workers at the Orlando-based Golf Channel say they are fed up and want out of their union.

The worker who is initiating this process is Golf Channel camera operator John Gallagher. Gallagher says he and his fellow co-workers are tired of the promises made by the union that they haven’t delivered.

In an exclusive interview with Sunshine State News, Gallagher said it all began five to six years ago when camera operators and technicians who produce golf tournaments and other programming for the channel pushed to have a union.

The Florida Keys: How Did We Come to Destroy So Much of Paradise?

July 22, 2015 - 8:00pm

The Florida Keys. Even if you live in this magical paradise, when you hear those words it is hard not to think about margaritas, shocking sunsets and Jimmy Buffett crooning on a bar stool. As the Tourist Development Council would say, “close to perfect, far from normal.” It seems to describe us pretty well.

Lawmakers, Ask the Post about the Latest Abused Sunshine Law Exemption

July 22, 2015 - 8:00am

Here's a good example why I wish lawmakers would pause for a minute and think before they gouge out another exemption from Florida's Sunshine Law.

If any one of them had tried, as an average citizen, to attend Tuesday's strategic planning day at the Palm Beach County Health Care District, they would have been out of luck. Goodbye, go home. "The meeting is closed to the public."

Oh, they would have been indignant, mad as a hornet, but District General Counsel Nicholas Romanello apparently had every right.

Thanks to lawmakers.

Medical Marijuana Grower Selection 'Shouldn't Be Delayed' by Patricia Nelson's Departure

July 21, 2015 - 11:30pm

Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, told Sunshine State News Tuesday he is sorry to see Patricia Nelson leave the new Office of Compassionate Use, but he isn't worried her departure will delay or confuse the process of selecting which of 30 nurseries will receive the five licenses to grow and dispense cannabis in Florida.

The Fact-Free Left

July 22, 2015 - 7:00am

The outrage over another multiple murder of American military personnel on American soil by another Islamic extremist has been exacerbated by the fact that these military people had been ordered to be unarmed -- and therefore sitting ducks.
