Special Session on Florida Senate Redistricting Scheduled for October
The Florida Legislature will hold a special session at the end of October and the start of November to redraw the state Senate districts, the leaders of both chambers announced Tuesday.
Already returning to Tallahassee for a special session to redo the congressional districts after the Florida Supreme Court ruled eight of them failed to pass constitutional muster, the special session on Senate districts will take place from Oct. 19 through Nov 6.

Rick Scott Appoints Sam Accursio to South Florida Water Management District
Gov. Rick Scott made a new appointee to the South Florida Water Management District on Tuesday.
Scott named Sam Accursio to the SFWMD. Acursio is the owner of Sam S. Accursio & Sons Farms, which grows 2,000 acres of farmland in Miami-Dade. Accursio currently serves as vice chair of the Agriculture Practices Advisory Board and is also a member of the First National Bank of South Florida Board of Directors.
Accursio succeeds Juan Portuondo. His term will begin July 28, 2015 and will continue to March 1, 2019.
His appointment is subject to Senate approval.

Ted Yoho Considering Entering 2016 Race to Replace Marco Rubio in Senate
With a new poll showing around half of Florida Republicans remain undecided on who they want to see replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in the Senate in 2016, a new contender could be in the mix: U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla. Supporters close to Yoho told Sunshine State News on Tuesday that the North Florida congressman is looking at entering the race but is far from making a final decision on it.

Miami Celebrates 119th Birthday

The city of Miami celebrates its 119th birthday Tuesday. It was officially incorporated as a city July 28, 1896, with a population of around 300.
Miami, Florida's second-largest city, has a rich history. Before Europeans came to America, the Tequesta Native American tribe inhabited Miami as well as part of the eastern coast of South Florida. In the early 1500s, the Spanish arrived in Florida and claimed the land as their own.

Allen West Takes Aim at Export-Import Bank Reauthorization

What was a kick for most people was dread and hassle for those confined to a wheelchair. In most state parks there were few amenities that gave them a sense of safety or ease of access to the natural joys Florida parks invariably offer.
