The Coast Guard will have an announcement about the search for missing teenage boaters Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen at noon on Friday. The two teens have been missing for a week now.

Hillary Completely Wrong on Cuba

Today at Florida International University, Hillary Clinton called for the lifting of the U.S. embargo on Cuba; though in doing so she solidified her position alongside President Obama as sympathetic to the Castro regime.

Since President Obama began his diplomatic relations with the Cuban government, the struggles of the Cuban people have only worsened. The Cuban government has been caught smuggling weapons into North Korea and sheltering international terrorists, all the while abusing the rights of its citizens through a system of brutal oppression and exploitation.

Carlos Curbelo Goes to Bat for Pell Grant Expansion

This week, U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., showcased his support for a proposal to expand when college students can use Pell Grants.

Curbelo is playing a key role in U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik’s, R-N.Y., “Flexible Pell Grant for 21st Century Students Act” which allows college students to use Pell Grants for summer term classes instead of just fall and spring semester courses.

With activists gearing up to bring an amendment to the state Constitution raising the minimum wage, a new poll shows it starts off the 2016 election cycle with solid support. Currently, the minimum wage in Florida stands at $8.05. 

Medical Marijuana Proposal Polls Well in Early 2016 Survey

Despite a similar measure going down in 2014, a new poll shows Florida voters back a state constitutional amendment expanding medical marijuana use in the Sunshine State. St. Pete Polls took a poll on behalf of Saint Petersblog which was released on Friday showing 68 percent of Florida voters back the proposed amendment while 25 percent are opposed and 7 percent are undecided. To amend the state Constitution, a proposal must get 60 percent at the ballot box. 

Bill Nelson Plans to Block Drilling Off Florida Gulf Coast

With the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voting to open up the eastern part of the Gulf of Mexico up for drilling on Thursday, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., wrote Senate leadership informing them he would block the measure.

Police Shooting Cases Spur FDLE to Seek More Investigators

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement wants more investigators to handle an increase in shooting incidents involving officers at other police agencies across the state.

The department next week will present Gov. Rick Scott and the Cabinet an outline of its budget proposals, which include requests for a boost in salaries for forensic lab technicians and for additional staff to help investigate officer-involved shootings and use-of-force cases.

Most of Florida's Supreme Court justices boast net worths of over $1 million, according to recent financial disclosures. Public officials are required by Florida law to report full financial disclosures each fiscal year to the Florida Commission on Ethics. Total net worths include “household goods and personal effects” like art and vehicles.
