However Tempting, Florida Likely Won't Try to Eliminate Property Taxes

In a ballot initiative that caught the attention of Florida tea party conservatives and low-tax advocates the country over, North Dakota voters on Tuesday said "no" to making their state the first in the nation to end property taxes.

In fact, more than 76 percent of the electorate turned down Measure 2, according to returns from the North Dakota secretary of state.

EPA: State's Everglades Plan Meets Federal Approval

Federal environmental officials on Wednesday told Florida that a revised state plan to improve water quality in the Everglades meets with Washington's approval, and said it may meet a federal judge's order to clean up the ecosystem.

In notifying the state Department of Environmental Protection that changes made to an earlier plan are satisfactory, the EPA will allow the state and the South Florida Water Management District to move forward with what officials say is a historic plan for the construction of stormwater treatment areas and huge new areas of water storage.

Dean Cannon Focused on Private Sector, Not UF Presidency

Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, isnt running to be the next president of his alma mater, his office stated.

Cannons name has been floated after State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan on Monday said the University of Florida trustees shouldnt limit the search to replace its president strictly to the academic world.

But Cannons spokeswoman Katie Betta quickly dismissed the UF rumors.

Pam Bondi: MedVance to Offer Retraining, Direct Scholarships to Florida
