Florida Sues Feds for Blocking Access to Homeland Security Database

Florida has filed a lawsuit against the federal government for failing to provide access to the Homeland Securitys SAVE database to help the state find noncitizens among Floridas registered voters.

Gov. Rick Scott announced the lawsuit while on FOX News Monday afternoon.

FreedomWorks' Tea Party Stirs Senate Race for Connie Mack

FreedomWorks, a national tea party organization, is wading into Florida's U.S. Senate race with a strong call to support U.S. Rep. Connie Mack's bid to knock off Democrat Bill Nelson.

Comparing the four-term Naples congressman's record with the 16 months that rival Republican George LeMieux served in the Senate, the FreedomWorks analysis argues that Mack is the more reliable conservative.

"Perhaps most significantly, Mack was one of the few members of Congress in 2008 who voted against the TARP/Wall Street bailout -- twice.

Sandy Adams Opens Another Front Against Holder on 'Swatting'

Rep. Sandy Adams, R-Orlando, sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder regarding the growing threat of SWAT-ting and its costly ramifications.

In her letter with 87 co-signers, Adams stated:

Lately, there have been a string of threats directed at conservative bloggers where individuals call emergency dispatchers under the guise of another persons name with fraudulent claims. These claims then cause local law enforcement to swarm the home of innocent Americans, and in some instances they have done so with guns drawn.

Frank Brogan: Don't Expect Those Big Tuition Hikes

Dont expect a state university seeking the maximum 15 percent tuition hike to get the full request, State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan said Monday.

Brogan said a decision last week by the University of Floridas board of trustees not to seek the maximum increase should be considered a shot heard around the world -- or at least across the academic world of Florida -- that many people dont have the appetite for another year of hikes hitting 15 percent.

Criminal justice experts say they weren't surprised by last week's study showing that the time Florida prisoners spend behind bars has grown more than in any other state a 166 percent increase in the average sentence between 1990 and 2009.

Former Department of Corrections Secretary James McDonough ascribed the findings of the report, "Time Served: The High Cost, Low Return of Longer Prison Terms" by the Pew Center on the States to changes in Florida statutes during the mid-to-late 1990's.

University of Florida trustees shouldnt limit the search to replace its president strictly to the academic world, said State University System Chancellor Frank Brogan on Monday.

Brogan, in the Capitol Monday for the governors Blue Ribbon Task Force on Education meeting, said nontraditional candidates should get as much consideration as those from the academic world.

Tom Rooney Backs Connie Mack to Challenge Bill Nelson

The Republican establishment continues to rally behind U.S. Rep. Connie Mack to take on Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November. On Monday, U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney announced that he was backing Mack.
