Rick Scott Replaces Suspended Madison School Board Member

Gov. Rick Scott named Walton Fain Poppell to the Madison County School Board, replacing Abra Hill Tina Johnson.

Poppell, 67, of Madison, has been the owner of Poppell Land Surveyors since 1976. Previously, he served on the Madison County Planning and Zoning Board from 2008 to 2011 and on the Madison County Board of County Commissioners from 1988 to 1992.

Rick Scott Appoints Larry Hart as Lee County Tax Collector

Larry D. Hart has been named Lee County tax collector by Gov. Rick Scott.

Hart, 56, of Fort Myers, fills the vacancy created upon the death of Catherine M. Curtis.

The term runs through the end of this year.

Hart, a Republican who has been the assistant tax collector since 2001, is one of three people including one other Republican -- running for the office.

Gilways success as president will be judged by how well he can shrink the size of the Florida-backed company.

The two Republican candidates seeking to replace term-limited state Sen. Steve Wise, R-Jacksonville, looked to stress their conservative credentials as they added endorsements on Wednesday in the race to represent Duval and Nassau counties.

Former state Rep. Aaron Bean unveiled the support of the Florida Medical Association (FMA) on Wednesday as he looks to return to Tallahassee. And Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville, announced he has the support of Rep. Larry Metz, R-Eustis, who reinforced Weinstein's conservative credentials.

Obama Set to Blame George Bush in Speech on Economy

President Barack Obama will come to the key battleground state of Ohio on Thursday to weigh in on the economy -- and to argue that he needs more time to turn back the economic policies backed by former President George W. Bush.

Obama is also expected to attempt to tie former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, who has won enough delegates to claim the Republican presidential nomination, to the policies backed by the Bush White House.

Tom Grady Fails to Land as Finalist for Citizens' President Post

The Citizens Property Insurance Corp.'s presidential-search committee has narrowed its recommendations to Barry Gilway, president and CEO of Mattei Insurance Services, and Glenn Pomeroy, CEO of the California Earthquake Authority.

Gilway and Pomeroy were the two top candidates as ranked by a search selection company from the five remaining applicants for the post.

The full board meets at 9 a.m. in a teleconference.

Tom Grady, the interim president and an applicant for the post, was not added to the list of finalists.

Gwynne Alice Young to Become Florida Bar's 64th President

Tampa attorney Gwynne Alice Young will be installed as the 64th president of The Florida Bar, with Eugene K. Pettis, a Fort Lauderdale attorney, sworn in as president-elect, during the Bars Annual Convention June 22 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, the Bar announced Tuesday.

Young, a shareholder at Carlton Fields, is the fifth woman elected to the Bars highest post.

She is also the fifth attorney from the firm to lead the Bar.
