Jobs, Jobs, Jobs: George LeMieux's Cure for the Summertime Blues

The great Eddie Cochran sang in his classic hit Summertime Blues (not all of us in Generation X associate the song with Alan Jackson) about the problems a teenager encounters when free from school -- and his lines about summer jobs and calling up congressmen came to mind on Wednesday as former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now running in the Republican primary to take on Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November, weighed in on teenagers searching for jobs.

LeMieux pointed to a new report that shows 70 percent of teenagersare having problems finding jobs and said that policies backed by Democrats in Washington are responsible.

With seven out of 10 teenagers unable to find work, it is again time to think about the harm Washington is causing our future generations," LeMieux said in a statement on Wednesday. Teenagers are seeking to help their families make ends meet by working summer jobs, but the policies of President Obama and Bill Nelson are making it nearly impossible. This administration and Congress have placed such burdensome regulations on businesses that they are keeping entrepreneurs from hiring and forestalling an economic recovery. We must change our current situation so future generations will have the same opportunities we were awarded, but to do so we must first change our leaders in Washington.

Well, thats better than the congressmans response in Summertime Blues, where he says, Id like to help you son but youre too young to vote.
