Florida Legislators Expected to Revive Immigration Push Following Arizona Ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Arizonas immigration law may revive Floridas 2010 effort to bring some Western justice to the Sunshine State.

In a victory for the federal government, the nations top court tossed out most of Arizonas 2010 immigration law on Monday.However, the court upheld the most controversial portion, allowing state and local law enforcement officials to verify a persons legal status when stopped on suspicion of committing a separate offense.

Southeastern Legal Foundation Sues to Kick Supreme Court Justices off Ballot

Florida Gov. Rick Scott didnt take any action Monday on an allegation that the three state Supreme Court justices up for merit retention violated state law by allegedly using a court employee to prepare campaign documents.

But he also isnt waiting to make up his own mind about the legality of what they did.

Asked to discuss a lawsuit filed Monday that seeks to remove the three justices from the ballot for the alleged violation, Scott didnt use the word "alleged."

In National Spotlight, Marco Rubio Talks Arizona and Pushes Romney

As he promotes his new autobiography, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., enjoyed a taste of the national spotlight in recent days and took the opportunity to weigh into a host of political issues.

Before the Supreme Court of the United States gutted much of the Arizona immigration law in a decision released on Monday, Rubio tackled the subject on an appearance on Fox and Friends on Fox News earlier in the day.

Florida in State of Emergency for Rainy, Slow-Moving Debby

Florida is in a state of emergency awaiting Tropical Storm Debby, which is expected to strike in the Big Bend region later this week, Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday.

The storm, creeping toward Taylor and Dixie counties on Monday, may not reach land until Wednesday or Thursday, Scott said in a media conference at the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Were going to have flooding and potential tornadoes, Scott cautioned.

Florida Gulf Coast U to Appeal for Higher Tuition Hike

Florida Gulf Coast University will ask the Florida Board of Governors to reconsider the 12 percent tuition increase approved last week.

The Fort Myers-based state university had asked for a 14 percent increase.

Last Thursday, the Board of Governors granted four universities -- Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, University of Central Florida and New College the ability to hike tuition to the maximum 15 percent.

Supremes Strike Down Montana's Campaign Finance Law

Little reported so far is Monday morning's 5-4 Supreme Court decision to overturn a Montana campaign finance law that would have limited corporation and union political speech.

An outraged Common Cause, the organization pushing for the Montana law, calls the decision to support Citizens United "a brazen attempt to buy our elections out from under us."

Montana's highest court defied the 2010 Citizens United ruling by upholding a centuries-old ban on corporate political spending. It was that case at the state level that the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear.

Mitt Romney's Youth Team Includes Jeb Bush Jr. and David Cardenas

On Monday, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, announced that Young Americans for Romney will be led by his son Craig. But there are heirs to other political dynasties as well on the leadership team of the new group -- including Jeb Bush Jr. and David Cardenas, the son of Al Cardenas, currently the chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU) and formerly in charge of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF).

No Ruling from U.S. Supreme Court on Obamacare

The wait for a decision on Americas health care future will continue for a few more days as no ruling was handed down Monday from the U.S. Supreme Court, FOX News is reporting.

The ruling on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, now appears likely Wednesday or Thursday, as the nine-month term comes to an end.

The court can kill the entire law, kill portions of the law or uphold the law that extends insurance to approximately 30 million people and a mandate that requires every citizen to pay for coverage.

Attorney and veteran Ron DeSantis continues to reel in impressive endorsements as he runs for the Republican nomination for a new congressional district stretching from the suburbs of Jacksonville to Volusia County. On Monday, DeSantis announced that he had garnered the support of U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Ut, a tea party favorite who defeated longtime incumbent Robert Bennett in the 2010 Republican primary.
