Tropical Storm Debby has already generated 1,350 claims from Citizens Property Insurance.

And as the storm slowly makes its way across the state, Barry Gilway, the new president of the state-backed insurance provider expects the state will soon be flooded with more.

Clearly youre going to see an acceleration of claims, particularly water-related, said Gilway.

Jeff Atwater to Unveil Online State Contract Tracker

Floridas Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater will unveil a new means for the public to track state contracts on Wednesday, his office announced Tuesday.

The online program is the result of Senate Bill 2096, which legislators approved in 2011, requires public access to a state contract management system.

With Supreme Court Decision Pending, Rick Scott Rips Into Obamacare

With the Supreme Court of the United States expected to rule on Thursday over the constitutionality of the federal health-care law that President Barack Obama signed in 2010, Florida Gov. Rick Scott doubled down on his opposition to it on Tuesday. Scott was a prominent opponent of the federal health-care proposal and has been a staunch backer of the constitutional challenge from Florida and more than 20 other states to the law.

David Rivera: SCOTUS Decision on Cuba a Taxpayer 'Victory'

U.S. Rep. David Rivera, R-Miami, called the U.S. Supreme Court decision to let a 2006 Florida law he sponsored that restricts travel to Cuba stand, a victory for Floridas taxpayers.

By agreeing not to hear the appeal, the court on Monday let stand the law restricting travel to Cuba.

The faculty senate from Florida International University had challenged the law as an infringement on the federal governments policy decision-making.The 11th U.S. Circuit Court had upheld the law.

Adam Putnam Extends Oyster Permits Because of Debby

Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam has added two weeks to the oyster harvesting period in Apalachicola Bay because of Tropical Storm Debby.

The normal 45-day licensing period for the commercial harvesting that normally ends June 30 was extended through the end of the day on July 13.

Jeff Atwater to Host Jim Moran Institute Small-Business Forum

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater will host the 2012 Small-Business Leadership Forum, in partnership with The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, at Florida State University in Tampa on Sept. 6-7.

The forum, to be held at the Westin Harbour Island Hotel, brings together business leaders, investors, and academic and industry experts.
