Look Who Could Be Playing at the University of Florida

Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, former University of Florida President John Lombardi, University of North Florida President John Delaney and former UF football standout and coach Steve Spurrier are on a list of candidates to replace retiring UF President Bernie Machen.

However, the three-dozen-deep roster shouldnt be viewed as a finalist list as the names are of people nominated for the post.

Cannon and Delaney have publicly professed to be flattered but uninterested.

State Purge List Shrinks, Agreement Reached

A controversial list of 2,600 allegedly illegal voters has been whittled to 207, Florida election officials said Wednesday after running the names through a federal immigration database.

Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner said the names, about 8 percent of the initial list, will be forwarded to local election officials as early as next week.

The revised list was released the same day as an agreement was announced between the state and voting rights groups over efforts to remove noncitizens and other ineligible voters from the ranks.
