Tom Rooney: Don’t Rest until Libya Murderers Brought to Justice
U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Charlotte, released the following statement following the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, killing four Americans including the U.S. ambassador.
I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the four American diplomats, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, who were murdered in a brutal attack yesterday in Benghazi, Libya. The work of our diplomats overseas is defined by courage and dedication to American values of freedom and democracy, and these deplorable acts of violence on our countrymen will not disturb our steadfast commitment to honor their work and sacrifice.
Regardless of their declared motive, the individuals responsible for the deaths of our citizens acted through a fundamental hatred for American values. There is no excuse for any individuals or groups in any country to breach our sovereign territory and commit violent, abhorrent acts that endanger, or result in the loss of, any American lives. The United States of America should not rest until these violent extremists, and those that support them, are brought to justice.
