Pre-Presidential Debate Activities at Lynn University to Focus on AARP Priorities

AARP has announced it will sponsor a series of activities in Florida prior to the Oct. 22 presidential debate at Lynn University. The idea is to bring attention to the critical concerns of 50-plus voters, specifically Social Security, Medicare and financial security.
This is part of AARP's presence as a prime sponsor of the Lynn University Presidential Debate Festival and Watch Party, along with a series of on-campus, intergenerational conversations on the future of the popular, institutionalized entitlement programs.

After a weeklong education tour, Gov. Rick Scott put down a marker Friday night: He wants to avoid funding cuts for public schools next year -- and would like to boost spending, if possible.
But while Scott's stance might turn out to be popular with parents and teachers, he will have to set aside money for education in an overall state budget that is projected to barely break even.
What's more, Scott will have to come to agreement with some fellow Republicans who say they are just as focused -- if not more -- on making sure the state's education money is well spent.
More Young Adults (By Far) Would Rather Work on Wall Street Than Protest It

Generation Opportunity, a right-leaning group that polls youth voter sentiment, is out with a new survey that reveals twice as many young adults would rather work on Wall Street as protest it.
Seventy-six percent say the lack of job opportunities is shrinking the middle class, as young adult unemployment remains at 12.7 percent.
"I think this is pretty meaningful," University of Central Florida graduate Joe Chilcott told Sunshine State News Tuesday morning. "We need to work. We need jobs. Protests don't take us in the direction we want to go."

Okaloosa County Commissioner James Campbell had planned to retire in the coming weeks from both his elected and city government positions.
Instead, Gov. Rick Scott removed Campbell from office on Monday, hours after the two-term commissioner and longtime Niceville parks and recreation director was arrested for allegedly failing to fully disclose money on his annual Florida Commission on Ethics Public Disclosure of Financial Interests.
