Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson has reportedly declined to participate in a CNN-sponsored Oct. 30 debate with Republican Congressman Connie Mack, this according to a press release from Mack's campaign.

Florida Veterans Property Tax Amendment: Can Sunshine State Afford More Tax Breaks?

Amendment 2 that Florida voters will be asked to consider when they head to the polls in November is perhaps the least controversial, though critics insist it isnt an appropriate subject for a state Constitution and will cost local governments millions of dollars in lost revenue.

The Florida Veterans Property Tax Amendment (or Amendment 2) would extend current constitutional homestead property tax exemptions to all combat- disabled veterans age 65 or older, even if they were not residents of the Sunshine State at the time of their enlistment.

Florida to Appeal Obama Admin's Rejection of Hurricane Isaac Relief

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has fired off a letter objecting to the Obama administrations rejection of disaster relief for the Sunshine State from Hurricane Isaac and upped the states request by adding additional expenses to the cost of the storm.

Scott also directed the state Department of Emergency Management to formally appeal the denial.

Gallup: Romney and Obama in Dead Heat

Gallup's latest poll of some3,050 voters shows Romney and Obama each polling at 47 percent. The poll's margin of erroris 3 percentage points.

Real Clear Politics poll averages, which incorporate Gallup's latest, continue to show Obama leading Romney 48.3 percent to 45.2 percent. According to the same averages, if the election were held today, Obama would win re-election to the White House, with 332 electoral votes to Romney's 206.

Real Clear Politics shows Obama leading in the Sunshine State with 48.1 percent to Romney's 46 percent.
