Floridians Remember 9/11

Gov. Rick Scott has ordered U.S. and state flags lowered to half-staff today outside all local and state buildings and grounds in Florida to mark the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Scott and first lady Ann Scott will attend a 9/11 remembrance ceremony Tuesday afternoon at Boca Raton High School.

Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putman called Sept. 11, 2001, a defining moment in our nations history.

Surprised, Anyone? Digital Domain Files Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

In a move that surprised perhaps a handful of Siberian cave dwellers, Digital Domain Media Group Tuesday morning filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It means the state and officials in the cities of Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach stand a Chinaman's chance of recovering more than pennies on the dollar of the $135 million total they gave to the movie animation and special effects company for incentives to operate in Florida and hire Floridians.

Rick Scott Names Curtis Disque to the Martin County Court

Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Curtis L. Disque, of Jupiter, to the Martin County Court.

Disque, 47, has been general magistrate of the 19th Judicial Circuit since 2011.

Curtis brings to the bench a distinguished and varied background as an attorney, Scott stated in a release. As a general magistrate, he has a reputation for diligence, fairness, and courteousness. I am confident that the people of Martin County will be well served by this appointment.

Pam Bondi: Tampa Man Cashed Forged IRS Checks

A 37-year-old Tampa man has been charged with organized fraud -- receiving fraudulent tax refund checks --the statewide attorneys office announced on Monday.

Demetrius Lewis, 37, of Tampa, was arrested by the Pasco County sheriffs office, with assistance from the Internal Revenue Service, charged with part of an ongoing Florida Department of Law Enforcement criminal investigation.

Rick Scott Embarks on Education Tour, Questions 'Purpose' of FCATs

Gov. Rick Scott has given the latest signal that he isnt done with efforts to overhaul education in Florida.

And he has expanded upon prior comments regarding his questioning of the FCATs, saying that any annual testing of students should have a purpose.

You dont just measure and do a test, you have got to do a test that has a purpose, where you get a result you can do something about, and it impacts what youre trying to do, Scott told reporters Monday outside the Capitol.

Rick Scott Shrugs Off Hypothetical Charlie Crist Challenge

If Gov. Rick Scott is hot and bothered at the prospect of a Democratic challenge from Republican-turned-independent former Gov. Charlie Crist, he isn't saying.

Speaking to reporters outside the Capitol on Monday, Scott responded to the speculation of Crist running for the governors mansion in 2014 by first giving a sigh regarding the line of questioning before saying he intended to concentrate on his job.
