Newsmax Magazine Poll: Romney Big Winner of First Debate, Independents Turn on Obama

A Newsmax/InsiderAdvantage Flash Poll conducted immediately after Wednesday's presidential debate finds that Mitt Romney won by a significant margin,52 percent to Obama's 45 percent.

Pollster Matt Towery says "the results largely followed party lines, but independents broke in favor of Romney, moving the dial in his favor."

The poll sampled 373 likely voters nationwide, with a margin of error of 5 points.

Former Republican presidential candidate John McCain -- always popular among fellow veterans -- turned up in Tallahassee at a packed American Legion Post Wednesday, campaigning for Mitt Romney.

Winning Florida is vital for Romney, said McCain. The Republican U.S. senator from Arizona challenged the veterans in the room to spend a half hour a day over the next month calling people and working to support Romneys campaign.

Public College Students Demand More Taxpayer Handouts at Florida Democrat Press Conference

When Mitt Romney referred to that 47 percent of Americans who are dependent upon government ... who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, he might have had in mind the 15 or so public university students who attended a Tallahassee news conference Wednesday afternoon.

The collegians joined former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham and former Florida Sen. Rod Smith at the conference sponsored by the Florida Democratic Party.

Delta Launch Set for Thursday from Cape Canaveral

Those along Floridas Space Coast, and northern parts of the Treasure Coast, may get to see the nations newest GPS satellite launched by a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Medium rocket from Cape Canaveral Thursday morning.

The satellite is one of 12 that Boeing is building for the U.S. Air Force.

The 206-foot-tall rocket has a 19-minute launch window starting at 8:10 a.m.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the launch has a 60 percent chance of favorable weather.

‘Stand Your Ground’ Task Force Heads to Jacksonville

The next meeting of the Task Force on Citizen Safety and Protection, formed in the wake of the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman shooting in Sanford and reviewing the state's 'Stand Your Ground' law, is set for Oct. 16 in Jacksonville.

The meeting, to begin at 9 a.m. and have public comment starting at 1 p.m., will be held at the Edward Waters College, Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.

International survey research firm McLaughlin & Associates warns that even if Mitt Romney jacks it out of the park during tonight's debate, and President Obama lays an egg the size of a frying pan, it won't matter. Romney will still lose the post-debate swing state polls.
