BREAKING: Circuit Judge John C. Cooper Denies RPOF Motion to Dismiss Suit by Jim Greer

Judge John C. Cooper of the Second Judicial Circuit Court of Floridahas just denied motions by former state Sen. Mike Haridopolos, state Sen. John Thrasher, and the Republican Party of Florida to dismiss a lawsuit brought against them by former RPOF Chairman Jim Greer. The lawsuit alleges the parties failed to follow through with their end of a severance agreement when Greer resigned in disgrace as RPOF chairman.

CFO Jeff Atwater Hosts Free Tax Guide Webinar for Florida Small Businesses

To help Florida small businesses focus on year-end tax planning strategies, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced on Monday a free webinar, giving participants a choice of three different dates.

Called Tax Facts: A Guide for Small Business Owners, the event is part of Atwater's Money Matters initiative that follows up on his Small Business Leadership Forum in September. The Department of Financial Services is collaborating with the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA).

Florida Religious Freedom Amendment: Pro-Religious Liberty, or Anti-Church/State Separation?

One of the more contentious measures on the Florida ballot this November implicates religious liberty, with supporters claiming the provision will strengthen a time-honored freedom and opponents insisting it effectively overturns church-state separation.

The Florida Religious Freedom Amendment or Amendment 8 if passed by a 60 percent supermajority of voters, would revise Article I, Section 3 of the Florida Constitution.

But new campaign-finance reports show Bean still faces a challenge.

Democrat Nancy Soderberg, a Jacksonville Beach college professor and former national-security official in the Clinton administration, raised $32,589 between Sept. 15 and Sept. 28, the reports show. Maybe more importantly, her campaign shelled out $75,000 for television ad time.
