Wall Street Journal: Rick Scott Graded 'A' on Governors List for Fiscal Policy

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has been singled out for commendation and named an "outstanding tax reformer" in Tuesday's Wall Street Journal.

Writing for the Wall Street Journal Tuesday, Chris Edwards bemoans members of Congress for creating an economic mess with "chronic overspending and inability to deliver stable, pro-growth tax policies."

But, says Edwards, around the country are a few guys who who are making real fiscal progress -- and they're all in state capitols. Chief among them: Rick Scott.

Citizens Property Chairman Calls For Another Look at Loan Plan

Citizens Property Insurance Corp.'s chairman on Monday called for an independent review of a $350 million loan program designed to coax private companies to take some of the state-backed insurer's riskier policies.

Following a series of queries that included a letter from the incoming House speaker, Citizens Chairman Carlos Lacasa called for outside experts to review the plan, known as the surplus note program. Backers say the program could reduce the ranks in Citizens by up to 350,000 policies.

Florida Legislative Contests Have Attracted $200 Million

More than $150 million has been spent already on the legislatives races in Florida this year, with a month left until the votes are tallied.

Another $50 million-plus was currently available for additional TV, print and Internet ads as October began, according to numbers released Monday by the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

The majority of the money has come through the political parties and electioneering groups that include super-PACs, which have collectively raised $168 million and spent $126 million before October began.

Judge Denies RPOF Motion to Dismiss Lawsuit by Disgraced Former Chairman Jim Greer

After a two-hour informal back-and-forth in his chambers Monday, Judge John C. Cooper of the 2nd Judicial Circuit Court of Florida denied motions by the Republican Party of Florida and two state senators to dismiss a lawsuit brought against them by disgraced former RPOF Chairman Jim Greer.

Greer resigned from the state party chairmanship in 2010 facing accusations of fraud and money laundering; he is currently facing criminal charges of having diverted some $300,000 from the party to his private company, Victory Strategies.
