The U.S. House voted 256 – 170 on Wednesday in a favor of a  bill giving the VA secretary more room to fire underperfoming employees. The measure was championed by the two Florida Republicans in charge of the House Veterans Affairs Committee: Chairman Jeff Miller and Vice-Chairman Gus Bilirakis. 

With former U.S. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton, the favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination, headed to Miami on Friday, the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) took aim at her call for ending the embargo on Cuba. 

Florida Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, unveiled two endorsements as he continues his bid for the Florida Senate in 2016. Baxley’s only opponent so far is state Rep. Jimmie Smith, R-Inverness.

On Monday, reports emerged that Harlem Suarez, also known as Almlak Benitez, was arrested after plotting to launch terror attacks in South Florida. Surarez posted his admiration for Islamic State (IS) terrorism on social media and called for bringing terror to the United States.

On Tuesday, the U.S. House passed the “Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny” (REINS) Act. The bill would ensure Congress approves any federal regulation which has a $100 million impact on the economy. President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the measure. 

U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., now running for the U.S. Senate, is calling for the removal of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen and is open to impeaching him.

Former U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., now the president and the CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), slammed  the U.S. Senate for reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank in a piece at Townhall.com published on Tuesday. 

Businessman and Army veteran Todd Wilcox, now running in the Republican primary to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., finished up a tour of the Sunshine State at the end of last week and said his bid was picking up steam. 

On Monday, Florida  Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam said the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will expedite concealed weapons permits for active duty military personnel and for veterans. 

Former IRS Commissioner Mark Everson, waging a dark horse bid for the Republican presidential nomination, took aim at President Barack Obama on Friday over his comments on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart this week over how the IRS targeted tea party groups.
