Ted Yoho: Obama's Regulations Made REINS Act Necessary
On Tuesday, the U.S. House passed the “Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny” (REINS) Act. The bill would ensure Congress approves any federal regulation which has a $100 million impact on the economy. President Barack Obama has threatened to veto the measure.
U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., insisted on Tuesday the bill was needed.
“With thousands of federal regulations being issued every year, many of them are choking off the economic potential of America,” Yoho said after the vote. “One of the biggest complaints I hear from people in my district, is that it is harder and harder to grow a business - let alone conduct day to day operations - with all the new federal regulations being implemented by this administration.
“Some regulation is necessary to set the boundaries for business and safety,” Yoho added. “However, overregulation snuffs out the fires of the entrepreneurial spirit and suffocates job creation - which in turn hurts our economy. With so many regulations being implemented every day, week, and year, a cloud of uncertainty hangs over businesses large and small.
“Regulations should be written and reviewed by the individuals who were voted into Congress by the people they represent,” Yoho said in conclusion. “Not a room full of government bureaucrats who are disconnected from the people who are in the trenches everyday trying to make a better life for themselves and their employees.”
