Flags Across Florida at Half-Staff to Honor Victims of Jihadist Gunman in Chattanooga

On Monday, Gov. Rick Scott ordered flags across Florida to be flown at half-staff to honor the four Marines and the Navy officer killed by a jihadist gunman in Chattanooga, Tennessee last week. Scott ordered the flags remain at half-staff until the last of those five servicemen were buried.

Florida Unemployment Rate Drops to 5.5 Percent

Gov. Rick Scott announced on Friday that the state unemployment rate dropped to 5.5 percent in June as 12,200 new jobs were added to the private sector. The unemployment rate had stood at 5.7 percent in May.

Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera entered the race to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., on Wednesday and, on Thursday, unveiled a major endorsement: Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Rubio is running for the Republican presidential nomination and is not expected to run for a second Senate term in 2016.
