Pam Bondi Backs Carlos Lopez-Cantera to Replace Marco Rubio in 2016
Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera entered the race to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., on Wednesday and, on Thursday, unveiled a major endorsement: Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Rubio is running for the Republican presidential nomination and is not expected to run for a second Senate term in 2016.
Bondi becomes the first Republican holding statewide office to endorse a Senate candidate in 2016.
“Carlos has a proven record of success on behalf of Floridians who seek less taxes, less government and more job creation, and I have full confidence that if given the opportunity, he will continue this work as a critical voice in the U.S. Senate,” Bondi said
“Today I am deeply grateful and honored to receive an endorsement from my friend Pam Bondi to be the next United States senator from Florida,” Lopez-Cantera announced on Thursday evening. “She's led the battle in Florida against Obamacare and fights every day to protect our rights and freedoms. I know Pam's help in this campaign will make a real difference in getting our message out to the voters of Florida.”
