Leaders of the Republican Party are urging Gov. Charlie Crist not to veto the measure currently before him requiring women in Florida considering having an abortion in the first trimester to have an ultrasound. Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, who is running for the GOP attorney general nomination, sent Crist a letter urging him to support the measure. Giving the expecting mother the option of looking at an ultrasound of her unborn child will be incredibly important, wrote Kottkamp, noting that he had seen his son through an ultrasound.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is teaming up with Pilgrim's Pride, a North Florida poultry processor, to let Florida consumers know they can choose chicken raised right here in the Sunshine State. "Shoppers at Sam's Clubs across Florida can now look for the colorful 'Fresh from Florida' logo and be assured that the chicken they are buying is the freshest they can get," Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson announced.

Big pickup for Sen. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach, in his bid to win the Democratic nomination for attorney general. Gelber, who is in a close battle with Sen. Dave Aronberg, D-Greenacres, won the support of the South Florida Council of Firefighters Tuesday morning.

Moments after NFL great Jack Youngblood backed Craig Miller for Congress, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, the leading Democratic candidate in the race for the U.S. Senate, sent out an e-mail from NBA legend Magic Johnson.

Stressing the impact the oil spill in the Gulf has had on Floridas seafood industry, Sands called upon Crist to extend the deadline and pull the plug on permit fees.

Florida Democratic Party officials think they know what Gov. Scott Maddoxs involvement with seniors spans back to his days as mayor of Tallahassee, said Alliance President Tony Fransetta. Scott has a long history as an advocate for seniors, and his willingness to stand up for consumers will ensure that Florida seniors have an advocate on our great states Cabinet.

Here's the good news: Christina Guhl, an education paraprofessional at Lancaster Elementary School in Orange County, was named the 2010 Florida School-Related Employee of the year.

When the Cabinet meets tomorrow and discusses the oil spill in the Gulf, Tony Hayward will not be there. The CEO of British Petroleum was invited to address the Cabinet, but the oil company told state CFO Alex Sinks office that Bob Fryar, senior vice president for BP, will be there instead.

Gov. Charlie Crist has named Josh Isay of SDK Knickerbocker as a new media consultant for his independent campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Truckers will soon be able to take to state and local roads with heavier cargo. Gov. Charlie Crist has signed into law HB 1271, a measure that raises the weight limit for truck cargo from 80,000 to 88,000 pounds. The law gives the Florida Department of Transportation and local governments the authority to issue permits allowing for the heavier weights on state and local roads, as long as truckers avoid certain bridges that cannot withstand the strain. The permits aren't for use on any interstate.
