Florida's high school and college students will now have access to new online developmental education courses from a new grant issued by the Florida Department of Education, according to a press release from FLDOE Friday morning. The departmentseeks to increase the number of underrepresented students who enter and remain in higher education through this grant.

Rick Scott unexpectedly returned to Tallahassee Thursday evening, where throngs of protesters have been camped out for days to speak out on Stand Your Ground laws in Florida, racial profiling, and the war on youth. Scott sat down with the protesters, many of whom are with an organization called Dream Defenders, a group which has been particularly vocal about their disapproval of Zimmerman's acquittal last Saturday.

On Thursday, Gov. Rick Scott named Esther Jacobo as interim Secretary of the Department of Children and Families to replace David Wilkins who has resigned the post. Jacobo had been regional managing director for the department covering Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. Charlie Crist, a former Republican who joined the Democrats in 2012 and is expected to run for his new partys gubernatorial nomination. A Democratic senator who helped write Obama's health care administration law is openly saying the program is headed for a 'train wreck' due to problematic implementation. "I just see a huge train wreck coming down," said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., on Wednesday. Baucus is the first to express doubts and fears about the new health care law, which is supposed to give coverage to nearly 30 million Americans without health insurance. The program will provide tax credits for private insurance that will begin next year.
