Obamacare Author Foresees 'Train Wreck' for Law

A Democratic senator who helped write Obama's health care administration law is openly saying the program is headed for a 'train wreck' due to problematic implementation.

"I just see a huge train wreck coming down," said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., on Wednesday.

Baucus is the first to express doubts and fears about the new health care law, which is supposed to give coverage to nearly 30 million Americans without health insurance. The program will provide tax credits for private insurance that will begin next year.

Baucus expressed concerns that the new health insurance marketplaces may fail because residents aren't informed enough to make choices on their options.

"The administration's public information campaign on the benefits of the Affordable Care Act deserves a failing grade," he told Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at a budget meeting on Wednesday. "You need to fix this."

Sebelius responded by trying to throw Republicans in Congress under the bus, saying they blocked funding for the health care law, forcing her to raid other departmental funds that were available to her.

Open enrollment for the health care plan is slated to begin Oct. 1, when middle-class Americans who don't get coverage from their jobs can shop around for a private plan in the new exchanges.

Obamacare has brought a great deal of controversy across the country, with half of the states refusing to cooperate to set up the infrastructure dictated by the law.
