Alan Williams Speaks Out on Capitol Sit-In

Rep. Alan Williams, D-Tallahassee, who had been calling for Gov. Scott to 'come home' to speak with protesters camping out at the Capitol, has spoken out yet again about the protests taking place in Tallahassee.

Young people who are holding a sit-in at the Florida Capitol are sending a clear message to Governor Rick Scott and legislative leaders. Theyre not here just for a brief conversation with the governor. Theyre protesting because they rightfully believe the streets of our state are not safe for them under a Stand Your Ground law that is unjust and should be repealed.

Students and other concerned citizens in Tallahassee and communities elsewhere intend to stand their ground until this crisis of confidence in our states laws and leadership is rectified. Governor Rick Scott has heard a chorus of concerns raised from the Dream Defenders, as well as numerous Democratic legislators, all of whom are demanding real action in the form of a special session so that another tragedy does not occur. I believe Floridians should continue to stand their ground until a special session is held and a vote is taken to repeal Floridas Stand Your Ground law.
