NOAA Hurricane Season Prediction: Above-Normal Storm Activity

Get ready for an above-normal hurricane season in the Atlantic basin this year.

That comes straight from the crystal ball at NOAAs Climate Prediction Center a division of the National Weather Service -- and for the last several years, it hasn't been far wrong when it's assessed the next hurricane season.

Here's what NOAA predicts across the entire Atlantic Basin for the six-month season beginning June 1:

Marco Rubio, Adam Hasner Step Up Republican Attack on Obama's Mideast Policy

In separate statements Thursday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and Senate hopeful Adam Hasner joined the Republican attack on President Barack Obama's speech on the Mideast.

While applauding calls for peace and democracy, Rubio, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said, "We need to back up our words with actions and policies."

Rep. Allen West Calls Obama's Palestinian Plan Beginning of End for Israel

U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, called President Barack Obama's endorsement of a Hamas-led Palestinian state "the most egregious foreign policy decision his administration has made to date, and could be the beginning of the end" of Israel.

West, who represents a heavily Jewish district straddling Palm Beach and Broward counties, said in a statement responding to Obama's Thursday speech:

Masten Space Systems Inks Vertical Flight Contract With Space Florida


Space Florida has signed an agreement for Masten Space Systems to perform demonstration flights of a vertical takeoff-vertical landing vehicle at Cape Canaveral.

Under the $400,000 contract, Masten will conduct multiple flights from Complex 36 of the Air Force station. The operations will assist Space Florida in developing operational requirements for VTVL vehicles.

Vern Buchanan Hammers Obama's Plan to Send More Foreign Aid to Middle East

President Barack Obama offered a new vision of American policy in the Middle East in a major speech on Thursday -- but Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan is not buying parts of it.

Buchanan, who called for a re-evaluation of foreign aid last week, said on Thursday that the president should not be sending billions overseas to help develop democracies in the Middle East.

Gov. Scott Signs Controversial Elections Bill into Law

Gov. Rick Scott signed HB 1355 into law Thursday afternoon -- an elections bill Democrats see as crucial to their 2012 get-out-the-vote efforts in Florida and one that has already been the subject of a lawsuit.

Democrats have derided HB 1355, which passed through the Legislature in party-line votes, as a naked partisan attack aimed at disenfranchising many voters throughout the state who historically lean Democratic.

Connie Mack, David Rivera Attack White House for Stalling on Latin American Free-Trade Deals

Two Florida Republicans in Congress are calling out the White House, urging the Obama administration to get cracking on submitting free-trade agreements to Colombia and Panama.

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, the chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, is spending the week leading a congressional delegation that is visiting those two Latin American nations and Mexico. Mack met with both Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli and renewed his call for the White House to send the two trade agreements to Congress.
