On Wednesday, Floridas two U.S. senators -- Democrat Bill Nelson and Republican Marco Rubio -- worked across party lines to introduce a measure that would create a new IRS form for senior citizens which, the senators maintained, would make filing taxes on Social Security benefits and other sources of income easier for retirees.

Mike Haridopolos Introduces Himself to Voters in New Video
Senate President Mike Haridopolos of Merritt Island released a 5-minute video on Tuesday for his bid for the Republican nomination. Trying to wrap himself around conservative champions like Ronald Reagan, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, the video features Haridopolos family on center stage, even showing the Senate president throwing a football around in his backyard. With polls showing most Florida Republicans undecided, Haridopolos is trying to introduce himself to the voters.

Newt Gingrich Tries to Stop the Bleeding by Focusing on Health-Care Repeal
With his presidential campaign taking hits on all sides from a series of gaffes -- including his attack on the budget proposed by U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis. -- former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich tried to change the conversation on Tuesday and Wednesday by attacking the federal health-care law backed by President Barack Obama.
Gingrich noted in an e-mail to supporters sent out on Wednesday morning that he had signed a pledge in Iowa to repeal the health-care law.

Jon Huntsman and Roy Moore Base 2012 Campaigns in Florida
Politico reported on Wednesday that, if he enters the 2012 Republican presidential primary, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman will be setting up base in Orlando.

Amtrak's Financial Woes Bode Ill for SunRail ... Or Do They?
Memo to Gov. Rick Scott: Amtrak is on its way to a $616 million loss, even as it posts record ridership numbers.
The hemorrhaging rail line reported this week that it will require even larger government subsidies if it is to continue operations. Ditto for Tri-Rail, the three-county commuter train that serves Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in South Florida.
Amtrak's dire financial outlook comes as the passenger line is on pace to carry a record 28.7 million riders. Amtrak said its biggest losses come on long-distance runs.

A Saudi Arabian student in Palm Bay could face deportation after she allegedly spit on customers at a Wal-Mart and said a "higher authority" made her do it.
Nuha Mohammed Al-Doaifi, a 21-year-old engineering student at the Florida Institute of Technology, was arrested on a battery charge. But hate-crime charges could be coming as Al-Doaifi told police she spit on "white people" because "Americans are pushing us around."
