Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner continues to garner support from nationally prominent figures affiliated with the conservative movement for his bid for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012. The latest conservative to bestow his blessing on Hasner was radio host Hugh Hewitt.

Rick Scott Names Maurice Ferre to Transportation Commission

On Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott announced that he was appointing former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferre to the Florida Transportation Commission.

This ranks as one of the most high-profile Democrats appointed by Scott in the first six months of his governorship. Ferre had broken with his party to back Scott during the 2010 election cycle, backing the Republican candidate over Democratic nominee Alex Sink.

Home sales in Florida continued their gradual, yet determined rise in May, creeping up 3 percent from a year ago as median prices remained soft due to the continued sales of distressed properties, Florida Realtors reported Tuesday.

Marking the sixth month of statewide year-over-year sales increases, existing homes increased in 12 of 19 metropolitan areas tracked by the Realtors association, a trend industry leaders hope to continue with interest rates expected to remain favorable over the next several months. The trick is qualifying for the loan in the first place.
