Rick Santorum Attacks Obama Over Abortion

Speaking to a cheering crowd at the National Right-to-Life Committee (NRLC) annual meeting in Jacksonville, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, now making a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, slammed President Barack Obama for undermining the rights of Americans.

I very much feel at home here, said Santorum as he accepted the applause of the pro-life activists meeting on the First Coast. He praised them for all their efforts, calling them warriors of love.

In D.C., Florida Official Lashes EPA on Water Rules and Science

A Florida official told a U.S. House committee on Friday that the Environmental Protection Agency is disregarding science and good government in attempting to impose new water-quality rules on the state.

Ron Paul Takes on Abortion: 'The Most Important Issue of Our Age'

Stuck in Washington as Congress faces votes on continued funding of American military action in Libya, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, making his third bid for the White House, spoke via Skype to pro-life activists convening in Jacksonville.

I talk a lot about right-to-life, said Paul, who called it the most important issue of our age.

Paul, who was the Libertarian presidential nominee in 1988 and ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, called abortion a very bad sign for civilization.

After Supporting SunRail, Haridopolos Backtracks With Questions for Scott

In a first step toward possibly retracting his support for SunRail, Senate President Mike Haridopolos says he needs more information on the controversial commuter train.

"The conditions of the arrangement with the federal government may be different from the understanding that was originally reached in 2009," Haridopolos wrote to Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday. A copy of the letter was obtained by Sunshine State News Friday morning.

Jon Huntsman and Herman Cain Will Take Part in Florida Straw Poll

Two of the candidates running for the Republican presidential nomination to take on Barack Obama in 2012 announced late last week that they will participate in the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Presidency 5 straw poll in Orlando in September.

While former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, the front-runner for the Republican nomination and the leader in polls at both the national level and those focused on Florida, has already announced that his campaign will not take part in the straw poll, other candidates are starting to see it as an opportunity.

Haridopolos Quickly Names Craig Meyer as New Chief of Staff

On the heels of Gov. Rick Scott's announcement of Stephen MacNamara as his new chief of staff, shifting over from Senate President Mike Haridopolos' office, Haridopolos has named Craig Meyer, the current Senate budget director, as MacNamara's replacement.

Meyer has served in the post before under former Senate President Bob Crawford, and has served in state government for more than 25 years, as chief of staff in the comptroller's office, deputy commissioner in the Department of Agriculture and in the House of Representatives.

Gov. Rick Scott named Stephen MacNamara as his new chief of staff Friday. MacNamara moves over from chief of staff for Senate President Mike Haridopolos, replacing Mike Prendergast who slid over to head up the Department of Veterans' Affairs earlier this week.
