Gov. Scott Names Stephen MacNamara as New Chief of Staff
Gov. Rick Scott named Stephen MacNamara as his new chief of staff Friday. MacNamara moves over from chief of staff for Senate President Mike Haridopolos, replacing Mike Prendergast who slid over to head up the Department of Veterans' Affairs earlier this week.
It is the second such change among Scott's inner circle, as top political adviser Mary Anne Carter announced her resignation earlier this week, effective at the end of the month.
My goal is to make Florida the No. 1 state in the country for job creation, and I believe Steve MacNamara is the best choice to direct my team in that endeavor. His experience and political skill will be an asset to all Floridians as we continue to position Florida as an economic leader," Scott said.
MacNamara also served as chief of staff under former House Speaker John Thrasher, and headed up the Department of Business and Professional Regulation under former Gov. Bob Martinez. He will "get to work" beginning July 5.
